12 Restaurants Near Taksim Square Beyond the Tourist Strip
Walk toward Cihangir, Pera, Asmalımescit or Gümüşsuyu for choices from breakfast and local tables to a longer night.
Taksim Square itself may not be Istanbul's strongest few hundred meters for food. Better options spread in four directions: views in Gümüşsuyu, neighborhood tables in Cihangir, varied cuisines in Pera and evening energy in Asmalımescit. We chose twelve places not for being closest to the monument, but for being worth the walk.
A square that splits four ways
Gümüşsuyu descends toward the Bosphorus and Dolmabahçe, Sıraselviler leads to Cihangir, İstiklal to Pera and Asmalımescit, and the AKM side toward Gezi and Harbiye. Choose where you want to be after dinner to avoid unnecessary hills. With luggage or limited mobility, check the slope as well as distance.

Can I walk from Taksim to these restaurants?
Most are walkable, but slopes toward Cihangir and Gümüşsuyu are significant. Rain, luggage, a stroller or late hours change the journey. Open the route on a map, plan the metro or funicular for the return and prefer main streets over dark side roads.
